That’s me

That’s me.

My new slogan.

“That’s me”.

Which also means it defines very quickly of what I am not with “that’s not me”. 😉

I am sitting here in the Italian Alps at 1800m at our 113 year old family hut, cow bells in the background, the fountain spilling a gentle constant water flow… and I am thinking of never ever going anywhere else. Ever.
Because the here, right now – that’s 100% me. It has been a dream of mine to sit here with a computer, internet connection via hotspot and creativity flowing on 1800m above sea level.
Tadaa.

I am thinking that my gift in photographing people is really to show their “that’s me”: In the last month before I went to Europe, I photographed some very cool people of impact – Dr Lucy Hone, showing her in her element at one of her favourite places in a “that’s me” mode was epic. And in the same month, I photographed our former Ōtautahi Mayor Lianne Dalziel CNZM, also in a “that’s me” mode.

Looking at my life right now I can see very clearly “that’s me” and “that’s not me”. And if I look at it honestly, there are still some areas where I am in a “that’s not me” mode.
Sitting here at 8pm outside in the alcove of our hut, all by myself, with a glass of prosecco (yes, here we go, I just admitted to do the italian way of savoir vivre with working and enjoying a glass), looking into the distance to the world famous world heritage of the Dolomites, and little bats circling 1m in front of me, I know that this is 100% me. Knowing that this is the place where I also want to be buried – that’s me too.

We all have our “that’s me” ways. Our “that’s me” values, and our “that’s me” life style.
Living more a life that has “that’s me” written on it rather than the “that’s not me” is a gift.
Seriously, life is short. Even shorter than we think. In evolution we are just a blink, a second of fireworks before it goes out.

So – whatever you are doing right now. Look at it and ask yourself – is this me? Like, truly?

If there is one thing I have learned then it is that no one really ever cares how you do your life. Only you will. No one will ponder at the moment of your death more about your life than you do. So, we mortals, who only have a short sequence in this love life story of the universe – how can we create a life that says sustainably and gently “that’s me”?

Your turn. Xxx

PS: Yes, civilization is a 1.5h foot walk away. You cannot get more secluded than this.
PPS: This post was written in June and it just took me some months to put it out there. That is also me. 😉

Ciao, I am Stephanie Defregger, a mountain hut enthusiast and a person who deeply looks into the world and peoples eyes, wondering how we can live a life we love so much that it simply feels like “that’s me”.
